Thermopsis rhombifolia var. divaricarpa (Golden Banner)

Order Fabales, Family Fabaceae, Genus Thermopsis

Golden Banner is common along roads, and also grows in full to partial sun in woods and meadows. This variety has seed pods which are spreading and slightly curved. From USDA: "Mountain goldenbanner is known to be toxic. It contains alkaloids which are especially toxic in young plants and in mature flowering plants (Burrows and Tyrl 2001). All parts of the plant are toxic." I am following Ackerfield, "Flora of Colorado," for the identity of this plant. Wikipedia and Southwest Colorado Wildflowers have more information.
