Anacardiaceae (Sumac Family)

The berries of Rhus aromatica (Rhus trilobata) are sweet/sour, and are pleasant to chew on, or to flavor water, but don't try this with Toxicodendron berries. Rhus aromatica (Squaw Bush) may be found on lower Mag, or around Gross. Rhus glabra (Smooth Sumac) grows along Magnolia. Toxicodendron occupies the slopes below the road on Lower Mag, especially at the first switchback., and also on sections of the Waterfall Trail. As of January 2018, APG IV has placed Family Anacardiaceae in the Order Sapindales.
